October is Breast Cancer Month

October is breast cancer awareness month, and Kate Hudson’s online activewear company Fabletics has unveiled a new collection aimed at raising awareness and supporting those who’ve been touched by the disease.

Breast cancer affects one in eight American women, a huge percentage of the population. In light of this, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Fabletics’ global campaign for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer teamed up to create a collection that benefits the FTBC initiative.

Designer Ralph Lauren created the FTCB to bring together retailers, designers, and manufacturers in the fashion industry to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.

“To do this for breast cancer awareness is something important to me and the company,” said Hudson when making an appearance at the Fabletics store in Del Amo mall in Los Angeles to unveil the baby pink and bright blue capsule collection. Twenty percent of sales from the new collection will go to support the FTBC initiative.

The event at Del Amo was held to raise additional money and awareness for breast cancer research via FTCB and their partnership with Hudson, with 20% of proceeds from all items sold in the Fabletics store going to benefit the cause.

“…our company is about health, but it really is about community and support and doing the best that you can and for something that affects so many women as breast cancer, it makes absolute sense why we would partner,” Hudson told the Los Angeles Times.

The activewear company is growing at a fast pace. This year, singer Demi Lovato launched her own Fabletics line, promoting her fashionable activewear for different body types. The company has been offering larger sizes that are flattering to women of all body types, creating a more inclusive fashion label in the fitness and activewear industry, something that has been missing. And a few days before launching the FTBC capsule collection, the company just released its first shoe collection.

The shoes include slip-ons, lifestyle sneakers and workout shoes for an affordable price. But the first shoe collection (for now) is only available online to VIP members. It seems to be worth the monthly subscription charge, as shoes start at $39.95, about half of what other workout shoes cost.

While Fabletics clothing is typically bright and features prints and patterns, the shoes offered are in neutral tones of beige, white, black and gray. However, they contain fashionable elements like suede finishes, zippers, and reflective accents.

Fabletics continues to break new barriers in offering a fresh approach and more options for customers, as well as being an ambassador in promoting a good cause.
