I started the free trial to look up my step daughters family. Not only did I find a lot of information for her I found out a lot about my own family I didn't even know about. There was people who I thought came from one country of origin but was actually another. I went back 5 generations with my own family now and the tree I have created is very extensive with lots of pictures and other information. I am happy with the service I received. I rather pay less, but for the moment what I pay every month is fine as I still use it.

Pros
Many records on my family. Found a lot of information about my grandparents I never knew.
Cons
Could be cheaper
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

The DNA kit from ancestry is interesting. The results was a little surprising since I found out my DNA is 15% Asian. I enjoyed looking over the reports and they do contain a lot of information.

You can't do much with the the results of the DNA test unless you subscribe to Ancestry.com though which costs money every month. This is a  little disappointing since I just spent $100 dollars for the test. Ancestry should offer a couple of months of free use of Ancestry.com for those of us who got the DNA test done. It sure would make me feel like I am not getting a little ripped off. I do like the website and how the searching and the creating of my family tree is done since as a free member you can login and sort of start a family tree. I just wished they offered a full trial before so I can decide if it is worth making the full commitment.
Pros
Lots of information to search

Cost

I have used ancestry for over 10 years. Although many criticize ancestry especially after the major update a few years ago I still feel it is well worth the fee.

Even with computers, genealogy and creating your family tree still requires you to do your own research but ancestry.com provides valuable resources and very useful hints for continued searching to track down information about family members. Sometimes when your stuck and can't find information on someone you may have to wait until an update of the public records to see if any new information shows up about that specific family member.

There are so many useful features which gives you good value for your subscription.
Pros
Building your tree and search for records.
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I have used Ancestry for a while now creating my family tree. I really like the website and researching my family history has been a rewarding experience.

The problem I have is with the DNA part of Ancestry. All I have had is problems. I ordered my DNA kit in October. Ancestry said 6 to 8 weeks until you get your results. I received the kit in October and received an email confirmation late October that it was activated. I then received another email early November which explained "we’ve received your DNA" and it would be 6 to 8 weeks to get my results. Then late in November another email which said "Your DNA is now in lab processing. And it will be 6 to 8 weeks to get results." Then finally another email mid December explaining:

"Action required - we need a new DNA sample. Unfortunately, after multiple attempts, we were unable to use the sample you sent to AncestryDNA. This can be resolved by submitting a new one. Just click the button below, and we'll send you a free replacement test."

I am not sure why Ancestry would not just email me a new DNA testing kit. They waiting so long to tell me the sample is not good. It's almost been 3 months now. Now I have to start over and after calling customer support they told me it would be another 10 days before I received the new kit. Why so long they should be able to ship it faster? Plus, now I have to wait another 6 to 8 weeks before my new DNA sample will be processed. I asked for my money back and they told me no refunds after 30 days. That is crap and very bad business especially since I subscribe to Ancestry.com. I am going to call back and ask for a manager. If I don't get my money back I am going to cancel my subscription to their website.
Pros
Using Ancestry.com to create family tree is fun and easy to do.
Cons
Huge problems with Ancestry DNA

I like when you add family members to your tree the little green leaf icon comes up notifying you that Ancestry has further hints about your family and realtives. It's simply amazing how far back Ancestry can go in American history. My original family tree that my Grandmother had put together only went back about 3 generations and the information she had was pretty basic. On Ancestry I get access to birth and death records, photos and other people's family trees that integrate with mine. Half of my work on finding out who I am has already been done.

I give Ancestry 4 stars!
