Do you think you might have a STD? If you do, you are not alone as the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) estimates that there are about 19.7 million new STD / STI cases every year in the United States. STDcheck.com is based out of Houston Texas and is owned by FPK Services LLC. STDcheck offers confidential and private STD testing services in the United States and Canada. They are partnered with over 4,000 lab testing centers nationwide which are CLIA-certified. These testing centers are the same ones used by doctors and hospitals. All tests offered by STDcheck are FDA-approved and you should see your results in 1 to 2 days.

STDcheck.com service tests for common sexually transmitted diseases. Their popular all in one 10-Test Panel includes test for:

  • HIV 1 and 2
  • Syphilis
  • Gonorrhea (Gonorrhoea, The Clap)
  • Chlamydia
  • Hepatitis A, B, and C
  • Herpes 1 and 2

You can also purchase one or more of these tests separately if you wish. An early detection test for HIV is also available called HIV RNA Testing that can be added onto the 10-Test Panel for an additional fee.

How It Works

Getting yourself tested for STDs / STIs is straight forward. All you have to do is the following steps:

  1. Visit STDcheck.com and determine if you want to order online the 10-Test Panel or one of the individual tests.
  2. Search for your preferred testing center using your postal code to find the closest one. There are over 4,000 test centers in the United States and 500 in Canada.
  3. Enter your information including your first and last name, gender, email, date of birth, and payment information.
  4. Once your order is placed you will receive an email containing a Lab Requisition Form which will include a test code and the address of the test center you choose.
  5. Visit the testing center and give them your test code. Retrieving your samples on average takes between 5 to 15 minutes. The lab technician will collect the required samples (blood and/or urine).
  6. Your test results are emailed to you, usually within 1 to 2 days. Your results will be attached to than email as a PDF file.

STD Tests

All testing services at STDcheck are approved and managed by qualified physicians. All STD tests are FDA approved and all testing centers are CLIA-certified. STDCheck.com has 11 different STD tests which covers the most common sexual transmitted diseases and infections. These include HIV, Hepatitis, Herpes, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamdia. Most tests require a blood sample. The Chlamydia and Gonorrhea test require a urine sample. This means before you go to the test center, you should make sure you haven't urinated for at least one hour before arriving.

STDcheck also offers an early warning HIV test called HIV RNA. This test yields conclusive results 9 to 11 days after exposure to the HIV virus. This is much quicker than other HIV early detection tests that have waiting periods of 28 days. This RNA-based test detects the virus itself in your blood and is reportedly the most accurate results available on the market (according to STDcheck).

If unfortunately your STD test results come back positive (except for HSV-1) you will have access to a free doctor consultation over the phone. The doctor will either prescribe treatment or refer you to a specialist. If a prescription for medication to treat your STD is required then you will be charged a fee of $65 for the script.

STD Tools

STDcheck.com provides 2 digital tools on their website.

Personalized Test Recommender

The STD Test Recommender is a series of multiple choice questions broken into 3 categories that are based on factors like your daily lifestyle, your personal attributes, and the national health guidelines. There are about 15 questions in total. Based on your answers the tool will let you know which tests it recommends you have. In most cases it seems to recommend the 10-Test Panel since as a general principle if you are at risk for one STD, there is a chance you are at risk for most others as well.

Confidential STD Test Notification

If you have tested positive for an STD you can use the STD Test Notification tool provided by STDcheck.com to notify your sexual partners that may be at risk of an infection. The tool is free and will send either an email or a text message to their smartphone. This tool protects your privacy and there is no way to find out who sent the message. The message sent by this tool is as follows:

A sexual partner has recommended you get tested for STDs. Please visit STDcheck.com/notify and get tested as soon as possible.

It would be nice if the message indicated what they might be at risk of having but I guess just being notified about the possibility of having an STD is better than not being notified at all.

Privacy

STDcheck.com is required to abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). These are the same laws that doctors follow and they preserve your right to decide who can access your health information. On the STDcheck website your data is encrypted and all transactions between you and STDcheck.com are secure. The lab testing centers are private with no waiting area. All you need to do is take your unique identification code you receive from STDcheck and give it to the lab. They don't need your name and you don't need to fill out any other paperwork. The labs are designed so you walk in and give your blood and/or urine samples and walk out in under 15 minutes. Even the lab technicians don't know what the samples they are taking, are for.

Insurance

STDcheck.com does not accept health insurance for privacy reasons. When health insurance is used to pay for STD / STI testing, your insurance company is automatically notified and it goes on your medical record.

Costs

The most popular test at STD Check is the 10-Test Panel. This costs $219. If you would like to include HIV Early Detection with the 10-Test Panel the price becomes $349 (else the individual price for it is $175). The individual tests run from $24 each for Hepatitis (A, B, or C), to $89 for Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. In Canada you can expect to pay about 35% more for any of the tests.

Charges on credit cards for your STD testing will appear as FPK Services on your statement. You can cancel your order any time before your visit to the test center. Refunds will be issued within 24 to 48 hours of cancellation minus a 20% cancellation fee.

All prices in USD unless specified other wise. Prices may or may not include shipping, handling, and taxes. If available in other countries prices may be different. Costs where last checked on February 17, 2016.

Customer Support

STD Counsellors are just an email, live chat, or a toll free phone call away. They are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week to answer any of your questions you may have about the testing process or STDs in general. A online STD knowledge base and FAQ is also available which answers common asked questions about STDs, STIs, there symptoms, cures, and testing.

2x Customer Review

This is a good site to use if you just want to get some casual STD results and are not in a panic or crisis.  It's easy to choose which test you want, choose a location, and get the blood work or urine test done. There is false advertising on the website though, as no test takes only 24 hours to get results. The actual timeframe is 2-3 business days (not including weekends or holidays) for test results and 2-4 business days for the HIV RNA result.  For example, if you go in to give blood/urine on a Monday, then Tuesday is considered your actual test day and Wednesday would count as your first business day. Although the website will tell you 24 to 48 hours there is no instance where you will get results in that timeframe. The first time I had an HIV fourth-generation test the results took three business days.  The second time was an HIV RNA test and it took five business days  You don't find this out however until after you've already paid and tested, which is why I am telling you now In case you're in a hurry for results. Best wishes!

Stdcheck

I decided to use Stdcheck as I was having some symptoms and wanted to rule out STDs. I also did not want to see anything put on my medical record.

I stepped up and went for the extra testing. It's easy to order the test but the lab I had picked out to use was fairly busy. I had to wait about 45 minutes. If I had know that before hand I would have picked out a different lab as there are several in my area.

I waited 4 days for my results as the lab was extra busy which was a bit of a nail biter especial since the stdcheck website said it takes about 2 days to get your results. In the end my results where negative which is good.

Overall I would recommend stdcheck.  It's too bad they can't figure out how to rank the labs by how busy they are but I guess that is not possible since they are independent labs run by another company.

Pros
Detailed results. Professional.
Cons
Lab was a little slow and busy
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Rude customer service

Ok. It is really tough to find affordable STD testing here in LA surprisingly. I finally just went with this because the test I needed was relatively cheap and I didn't have to pay up front. So I order the requisition for the test.

Well, a few days pass, I haven't gotten to the lab yet, and get on their site to see they have a deal going on. $15 off, that day only. So I order a second requisition and use that one instead. I print that one, go get tested at the Quest lab near my apartment, super easy experience - checking in to walking back out to my car was under 10 minutes.

The trouble comes when I try to pay. I log in and both reqs are still up and I accidentally pay for the one I didn't use (the more expensive one). Oops. So I get on the phone with their customer service ... I figure this will be easy, they'll transfer the payment due for the req I actually used and refund the extra $15 back to me. What I got was an extremely rude customer service person who absolutely refused to refund my money and says that I can't get the discounted price anymore, even though I have a req on my account that clearly states the price with the discount still applied.

Then this woman deletes the req I used and says my test results will still go to the unused req ... somehow. I don't understand how that will work since I didn't bring that one in! Oh, and their site says 1-2 days for results .... well I'm 4 days out, going on 5 and results still aren't available. Something tells me I won't get those results tomorrow either. And I have a feeling it's not Quest but rather this customer service moron messing up my order online. So I'm sure I'll be back on the phone with them again Monday! Yay.

If you're getting tested for something of such a sensitive nature, you just want it to be easy, painless, and quick. This was awful ... a person shouldn't have to wait this long or be grappling with customer service reps while they wait on the status of their health. It has caused a lot of undue stress and I will NEVER be using this service again. There's got to be something better out there.

Pros
Easy to order test online
Cons
Slow to get results up, rude customer service
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Labs They Use are Terrible

I attempted to use this companies testing service as their pricing was less than half my normal PCP and lab would charge for the same tests. But you know what they say...You get what you pay for.

Scheduling and paying for the tests was simple online. The problem was, at least in my area, they contract out to the bottom of the barrel labs. Poor service & rude employees was my experience. When signing up online, they listed all these different labs in my area I could use. Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp. When actually finalizing my test purchases though, the lab options changed. Quest was suddenly unavailable and Labcorp was my only choice. After looking at the Yelp reviews of the Labcorp sites in my area, I was not impressed. Slow service, lost tests and rude employees were the main complaints. That was my experience as well. I walked into my local Labcorp at 2:15pm and there were 2 people ahead of me. I noticed that the two ladies working in the office were very short and kind of rude to their two customers ahead of me. Bad sign. After waiting 20 minutes to be called, I presented my paperwork to the lady at the counter. She looked at it briefly and asked for my ID. I told her my ID was not required for the test but she refused to proceed. I pointed out the Lab Technician instructions which clearly state no ID required and she rudely said "So you're unwilling to show me your ID?" I answered yes and then she rudely said she would have to call her manager. At this point I was done. After witnessing her poor treatment of her prior patients & experiencing it first hand, I certainly didn't want this overweight unhappy woman sticking a needle in my arm. I left and will now go back to my regular doctor to have these tests done and pay twice the price with half the headache.

I will now have to request a refund from STDcheck.com. They don't have a refund option on their site which is a bad sign. I guess I will have to call them. Hopefully they are reasonable and don't force me to dispute the charges on my card for lack of services rendered.

Pros
Scheduling the tests online was simple
Cons
Everything else
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
