I started the free trial to look up my step daughters family. Not only did I find a lot of information for her I found out a lot about my own family I didn't even know about. There was people who I thought came from one country of origin but was actually another. I went back 5 generations with my own family now and the tree I have created is very extensive with lots of pictures and other information. I am happy with the service I received. I rather pay less, but for the moment what I pay every month is fine as I still use it.

Pros
Many records on my family. Found a lot of information about my grandparents I never knew.
Cons
Could be cheaper
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I tried MyHeritage.com first and then Archives.com a month later. I didn't like Archives and MyHeritage was okay but I found I really liked how Ancestry.com was setup. It's very easy to get in and start setting up your family tree. Maybe part of it is because I tried the other genealogy services first so I was more use to how things worked when researching your faimily history. I just found that when I searched the records on Ancestry it just seemed easier to find things. They do have more records but the way the search works makes it easier to find the records you are looking for. So I plan on sticking with Ancestry and hopefully in the next few months putting in several hours a week I should have figured out quite a few generations back of my family tree.
Pros
Searching the records is the easiest of the 3 sites I tried.
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I could not have done my research without Ancestry. I was always interested in my heritage so last year I decided to join Ancestry.com to do research and gather the facts so I could make a book on our family that I can give as gifts for Christmas next year.

I didn't realize what I was in for and the amount of information which is available. I was able to track my ancestors back over 200 years to Europe and England. I got a lot of interesting photos and stories as well not only from the records they have online (including the military ones) but from 2 other users of Ancestry who share some of the same relatives. It's really neat how you can share your family trees and instantly expand your own.

I have almost all of the research done now that I want (you could keep finding out stuff forever if you want) and plan to start organizing it in a format so it will be enjoyable to be read by the family.
Pros
Great for researching your family history.
Cons
Monthly subscription does add up.
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

The DNA kit from ancestry is interesting. The results was a little surprising since I found out my DNA is 15% Asian. I enjoyed looking over the reports and they do contain a lot of information.

You can't do much with the the results of the DNA test unless you subscribe to Ancestry.com though which costs money every month. This is a  little disappointing since I just spent $100 dollars for the test. Ancestry should offer a couple of months of free use of Ancestry.com for those of us who got the DNA test done. It sure would make me feel like I am not getting a little ripped off. I do like the website and how the searching and the creating of my family tree is done since as a free member you can login and sort of start a family tree. I just wished they offered a full trial before so I can decide if it is worth making the full commitment.
Pros
Lots of information to search

Cost

I am very interested in Ancestry and I really like the way it works. I have always been interested in my family history which came to a head when I recently got all the family books from my mom. I wanted to put together a family tree with this information I have, so I did some research online and found Ancestry. I have only scratched the surface of what I can do and I am really excited to continue to use it.

I am only about a month into using the service but the one thing I did find was that my grandfather and great grandfather's birth date information is incorrect. My grandfathers information was from another member's public tree which Ancestry doesn't really control. I did contact the person and we discussed and he ended updating his information as I was able to prove to him that my info was right.

My great grandfather information (from the other side not related to the grandfather on my mom's side from above) was from Ancestry's own records. What's great is you can add alternate information and additional comments to records on Ancestry. I did this and it has been reviewed and updated so props to Ancestry.
Pros
Easy way to create a family tree with lots and lots and lots of records :-)
Cons
Need to confirm information as it could be wrong especially if entered by another member.
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
