The Ancestry DNA test is very easy to use and it comes with a prepaid envelop. I do wish that you got your results faster. Mine took almost 2 months before I was able to see the results.
The results are interesting though. I have plenty of European heritage that I know and guessed I had but was surprised to see a percentage of Asian DNA. I was not expecting that and will make an interesting branch on my Family Tree when I start one. I am really curious how that happen and I hope when I start researching I will be able to find out. I just retired so this will be a perfect thing for me to work on, on rainy days.
Pros
Interesting info about yourself
Cons
Results are slow to get. Mine took almost 2 months from start to finish.
In my opinion the DNA testing kit is a must have for Ancestry.com subscribers. For the past 6 months I had grown my family tree to just 32 members. I couldn't find anymore and I thought I was stuck.
For Christmas last year someone in my family gave me the Ancestry DNA testing kit. I sent in my results any in 2 long months (way to long to wait) I got my results. While the ethnicity estimate is interesting what I found I really liked with the DNA Circles tool. I never knew about this tool before but it allows you to find other people that match in part your DNA there by potentially filling in your family tree more. I found 2 really close matches and have been expanding my family tree every since.
Really glad I did the DNA test and those of you who have a family tree on Ancestry.com will be too.
Pros
DNA Circles tool is great for finding more relatives.
Cons
Takes too long for results to be completed. 2 weeks would be more reasonable.
The commercials are very misleading and make you think that there are specifics and some nice things to download. None of this is true. Our family new that there was aboriginal from our Swedish side from family photos of very dark skinned Grandparents. We also have darker skin ourselves. All ancestry dna gave was a general region called Norway/West Russian and after a second inquiry asking what our aboriginal tribe was that could be Laplander and why wasn't it in the results?, they replied saying that the region Norway/West Russia could mean that we have Laplander or something else from that region.
It was completely vague, and I would not recommend that anyone purchase an ancestry dna kit.

Pros
none
Cons
It only gives very general regions, and you don't even get anything nice to print up for all your money
Bought this kit, had it sent and ATTEMPTED to activate the kit as directed, received the same error at the end of the process, on every device I have. I then spent AN HOUR on a chat with a support person who had no idea how to solve the problem. In the end, the answer was, go find someone with a WINDOWS machine that will let you activate your kit there. Chrome and Safari and iOS don't always (ever in my case) work in activating the kit. I know it is an obscure hardware set up I am using, macbooks (2) and iPhone, so I guess I can't expect them to support Apple products, even the very latest version of every operating system and Google Chrome, which I guess is also an obscure browser that they have not tested. Avoid this crappy product.
Ancestry's DNA test is perfect for those of us who subscribe to Ancestry.com. For my family tree I could only find 32 relatives based on searching through the records. After I took the DNA test and with the new DNA Circles tool that you can use, I found numerous more distant relatives based on my DNA alone. I was able to connect them and their family trees to my tree expanding the knowledge of how my ancestors migrated across the world. Ancestry DNA is integrated well into Ancestry.com and is an excellent tool for those interested in genealogy.
